A dissertation literature review is a report on the literature sources that you used for covering your dissertation topic. Dissertation literature review presents what has been published on your topic by the researchers and accredited scholars.
Dissertation literature review is usually required to be written on a separate paper, although, sometimes in a form of annotated bibliography. When writing your dissertation literature review, your task will be to convey the approaches and theories established on your topic to the reader. You will also have to analyze what their advantages and disadvantages are.
Literature review is usually not only a set of summaries on the books, but a deep analysis of the literature used. It should be like a guide to your reader through the numbers of the arguments provided by researchers.
Usually, a dissertation literature review writing lets you get and present skills in 2 areas:
1.Information searching. It includes abilities to find the books, articles or research papers relating to your topic and to identify the most essential information there;
2.Information analysis. You should apply your knowledge of the main principles of analysis to make an objective analysis of the sources.
Your dissertation literature review should:
- Be well organized and related to the thesis statement you are developing;
- Identify questions that require further research;
- Determine the areas of controversy in the sources collected;
- Recast results into the short summary of what is already known and what is not.
It is advisable to consult your supervisor as well while making your literature review.
